James C. Leary most recently finished a two-year stint as ‘Clem’ the loose skinned demon on the UPN’s critically acclaimed hit BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Allison Hannigan, and James Marsters. He turned the original five-line part at the beginning season seven into a regular recurring role and was soon a fan favorite. James recently co-wrote, co-produced and co-starred in the award winning short film “Stunt C*cks” which has played to sold out audiences at the FLORIDA FILM FESTIVAL and the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL, and will soon appear at the RHODE ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL, the BRECKENRIDGE FILM FESTIVAL, and the CRESTED BUTTE FILM FESTIVAL. The film co-stars Lou Diamond Phillips (YOUNG GUNS – HOLLYWOOD HOMMICIDE), Scott Thompson (KIDS IN THE HALL – THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW), and Ron Jeremy (PORN STAR). James’ other credits include a staring role in the award winning, critically acclaimed sitcom Los Beltrán. In its two year run, Los Beltran broke new ground as the first original comedy produced for Spanish language television in the United States. James brought his own undeniable energy and unique comic flair (he didn’t speak a word of Spanish) to the show as “Kevin,” the Beltrán family’s very American, flamboyant neighbor who rents an apartment from them with his same-sex partner “Fernandito”. Los Beltrán was honored with a 2001 Alma Award for Outstanding Spanish Language Comedy Series. Additionally, the show received two GLAAD Media Award nominations (2000 – 2001) for Outstanding Comedy Series competing against WILL AND GRACE, POPULAR, and SEX AND THE CITY. James’ professional theater career includes roles in such plays as The Parralax Theatre Company’s production of Robert Coovers THE BABYSITTER, ATTACK OF THE KILLER B’S at The Factory Theatre West, THE ROAD TO NIRVANA at Chicago’s TRAPDOOR THEATER. Most recently James received rave reviews for his portrayal of the emotionally unbalanced neighbor MATT in Alex Jones’ gripping drama NOISE at the Furious Theatre in Pasadena. David C. Nichols of THE LOS ANGELES TIMES wrote about his performance “…dashing slacker Matt (James C. Leary)…conceals his imbalance beneath layers of roughhewn charisma, recalling a young Terrence Mann.” Danny Margolies of BACKSTAGE WEST wrote “The decision to cast sweet faced James C. Leary as Matt is only one of the smart choices…only as the play unfolds do we begin to see his deep reserves of deadly darkness.” James also played MICKEY in Jez Butterworth’s period rock and roll potboiler MOJO at the Furious Theatre. James has also done work as an actor in numerous national commercial campaigns, music videos, industrial films, voice-overs and independent films. He studied at Chicago’s famed Improv Olympic, Second City, and Steppenwolf. In LA he has honed his skills at Improv Olympic West and The Playhouse West. James lives and works in Los Angeles. |
